Transcription and RNA Processing

ID #2058

Where does the triphosphate come from that links the two 5' ends of the methyguanosine cap and the mRNA in processing?

The 5' end of the RNA has a triphosphate group, as does the modified guanine. In a 3 step process, a pyrophosphate group is removed from the methylguanosine, one phosphate is removed from the mRNA, and the triphosphate bridge is formed.
