Hi there! My name is Jeff Rajkumar, and I’m a sophomore at UIUC majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology. Right now I’m helping the Kalsotra Lab learn more about a poly (A) binding protein, PABPN1, and its role in heart development and disease. Currently I am using site-directed mutagenesis to modify various domains of PABPN1 to help elucidate the ways in which it interacts with RNA and various other proteins.

I grew up in the small town of Morton, IL and have been interested for quite some time in micro and molecular biology. I especially enjoy learning about the roles of various proteins in disease, which ties nicely into my work with PABPN1. In my free time, you could find me watching movies, reading movie reviews, or watching movie trailers. If I had any more free time, I’d probably spend it hanging out with friends, reading, listening to music, and writing. "This is my first experience as an undergraduate researcher and I can’t wait to learn more about the field of biochemistry and molecular biology"!
