Biography

My name is Jackie Chen (yes, named after the movie star), and I am currently a junior majoring in Biochemistry here at UIUC. My hobbies include video games, hanging out with friends and family, messing around with technology, playing basketball, and anything basketball related really.

I am currently unsure what I want to be after I graduate and finish my education, but I am leaning towards research since I believe it can make a huge impact in society. The opportunity to understand what goes on in research is part of the reason why I decided to join the Kalsotra Lab. My goal is to learn as much as I can from the incredibly smart people in the lab and, ultimately, think and answer questions like a true scientist.

I am currently working with Sushant to investigate the exact roles for ESRP2 in liver biology. I am especially interested in determining the RNA-binding landscape of ESRP2 in hepatocytes and identifying its impact on alternative splicing regulation.
