Cellar spider (Pholcus phalangioides)

Spiders in the family Pholcidae weave loose, irregular webs (traditional-looking cobwebs), and males and females of many species nest together.

Availability: These need to be ordered and will be available after spring break.

Housing: These spiders are wasy to rear in a box or jar, any container that has enough room for them to weave a web.  Additional water does not need to be provided as long as conditions are not too dry (50 to 70% relative humidity).

Food: Insects smaller or as big as these spiders can be tossed into their webs for food.
