I grew up in a very unique small
town in Illinois called Farmer City. It is the only one in the
world, and those of you in my sections already know how proud of that I
am. I attended Augustana College in the Quad Cities where I
earned my bachelors in Biology. While I was at Augie my research
interest was piqued in biology while I completed two research
projects. One over the course of the semester involving abiotic
influences on aquatic ecosystems, and the other analyzing the quality
of control methods for the invasive plant Reed Canary Grass, Phalarus arundinacea. Here at
the U of I my research has shifted, my current project is focused on
the genome of Papaya (Carica papaya).
