Integrative Biology 102/103
Summary of a Video

The critical analysis of a video is worth up to 2% of your course grade (depending on the quality of your work).

In order to earn the 2% extra credit for this project you must follow all of these directions:

1. View the entire video (approximately 1 hour).

2. Take notes during the video and turn in a photocopy of your notes with your paper. You will receive no points for this project if you do not turn in notes.

3. Type a summary and analysis of the video.
(at least four double spaced, 12 point, typed pages)

In your paper, you must explicitly address all of the following points:

  • Give the name of the video and , if appropriate, the authors and presentors.
  • Summarize the major points of the video.
  • Make connections to concepts and issues you have learned about in Integrative Biology 102 or 103.
  • Library Research: In your paper, you must incorporate additional information from at least two articles from scientific journals, scientific texts, or the popular press. Your references must include at least one reference that is NOT an online resource. These articles should deal with some of the topics addressed in the video (the articles could be from a professional journal, Scientific American, National Geographic, or a news magazine).
  • Cite your references in the body of your paper and include an explanation of their relevance to the topics covered in the video. Remember to use proper scientific citation format.
  • Include the the articles you used in a bibliography at the end of your paper.
  • Remember to include a photocopy of the notes that you took during the video.
  • Post in Turnitin.com.
  • 4. Complete your paper and give it to Beth Morgan (in lecture or 426 NHB - slip it under my door if I'm not there) in or before the last lecture of the semester.
