Penstemon cobaea has large lavender flowers. It is native to the west of Illinois, but is also cultivated in perennial gardens. In this image, Penstemon cobaea (yellow arrow) is growing with pale cone flower (Echinacea pallida); the latter is a member of the Asteraceae.
