22-Apetalous flower

Apetalous means without petals. On this photo of member of the witchhazel family, Fothergilla major, you can distinctly see the gynoecium (the two carpels are connate at their base, but the styles are distinct) and the numerous stamens (note how the filaments are enlarged). But petals are missing, and the sepals are rudimentary.
