Breeding Systems

1-Introduction

[FMP-field: image]

Flowers are required for plant reproduction, which is necessary for a plant to survive over time. Plants have evolved many adaptations that either encourage outbreeding (cross-pollination) or inbreeding (selfing). When these wear down, hybridization can occur.

This unit on Plant Breeding Systems was developed by Julie Plocher as part of an honors project for PB260 in the spring of 2001. Thanks Julie!
