The Brassicaceae (or Cruciferae) is found nearly worldwide, but is particularly diverse in temperate and cool regions of the Northern Hemisphere, in the Mediterranean region, and in southwestern and central Asia.

There are about 400 genera and 3,000 – 4,000 species.
