last year has been pretty good for the Berlochers of Urbana. The Big News is the arrival
of our second son, Paul Theodore Berlocher. Hes a charmer, with lots of smiles and,
at this point, even a few words. He doesnt say "bug" yet, although I am
sure he would eat one if offered. Older brother Austin likes bugs, but at this point is
more interested in dragons and elves than insectoid creatures.
My research, some of it with Hugh Robertson, has been
productive the last year, moving us closer to understanding what really happens during the
formation of new species of fruit flies.
Thinking back over past newsletters, I can see patterns of
change over time in Urbana. Bread and Mexican food seem to be in the ascendancy, while
beer seems to be on a decline. But as long as the paucity of enchiladas I mentioned in my
very first newsletter entry has become lessened, life is good.
