First organized in 1997 by Dr. Michael Twery (National Heart Lung Blood Institute) and Dr. Martha Gillette (University of Illinois), the Neuroscience in Sleep and Circadian Biology DataBlitz has been a great success in attracting neuroscientists to the sleep area.

The DataBlitz program is selected by a scientific program committee organized by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute's National Center for Sleep Disorders Research (NCSDR), and provides an opportunity for interaction among investigators with common interests in sleep, sleep disorders, and circadian biology. Representatives from the NCSDR, the NIH Sleep Disorders Research Advisory Board, and NIH program staff are present to discuss current research, future directions and support mechanisms for research and training.

The DataBlitz format includes twenty-five,1-slide/1-minute presentations highlighting important new discoveries by sleep and circadian researchers. Many of the presenters are young scientists just embarking on their research careers.
