World statistics from Population Reference Bureau - http://www.prb.org/datafind/datafinder7.htm. (Result of search from the Population Reference Bureau search page, looking for "WORLD" in the Select Region box near the top of the page and "All Variables" in "All Variables" box near the bottom of the page.)
Meet with the group from your region of the world and prepare a brief presentation to the rest of your class.
Compare the population information for your country with that for the countries researched by the other members of your group.
Determine the similarities and diversities among the countries researched by the members of your group. Consider the points below:
Current Population Statistics
Birth Rate & Death Rate
Population Growth Rate
Social, Ethnic, and Cultural background information describing the demographics of the population including population information for different groups.
Problems associated with attempts to control population growth
Gender associated issues in the country including population data broken down by gender.
Density dependent variables common to the country (famine, disease, etc.) and their affect on population growth
Density independent variables common to the country (earthquakes, floods, etc.) and their affect on population growth
Is the country at, near, or above its carrying capacity?
Projections for future population growth or changes in population growth.
Describe regional trends in the population characteristics and explain the unique population characteristics of the countries studied within your region.
Compare the country and regional information with the world statistics table from the Population Reference bureau. Describe the similarities and differences in the world data and regional and country statistics.
Predict the impact that population growth in your region of the world will have on the WORLD population in the future? Consider economic and environmental impact as well as sheer numbers of people.
