You will be organized into 3 or 4 teams by your discussion or lab instructor during lab October 19-20. Each group will research one of the "organisms" listed below.
Bring your information to lab class November 2-3 and be
prepared to work with your groupmates to prepare a brief presentation
including the following information.
(Note - you are welcome to split up the work and have one or two
people work on each category of information for your disease.)
History - origin, identification, and reservoir (where the pathogen is found in nature).
Epidemiology – spread, prevention, and treatment of the disease.
The Mode of action of the “organism”, including the structure and reproduction - how does its DNA and/or proteins interact with the victim's cells and/or medicines used to treat the disease.
This last category will require you to dig into the disease and investigate it on a moleculer level, so look for resources that provide the needed detail. The basic CNN news story will probably not provide what you need.
You should find information related to the DNA, gene expression, and protein synthesis topics we have discussed in class.
