Biology 100/110
Lecture 7: How to access the Photosynthesis Tutorial for Biology 100/101

First thing... the tutorial will not work well, or at all, if "Virtual memory is ON. So before you start, of after the computer crashes, turn the memory off using the "memory" control panel, or ask the site supervisor for help.

After that, this table show you how to connect to the server from a networked Macintosh at the U of I. All the instructions are along the right hand side with sample pictures on the left to show what the screen should look like.

If you resize the window and push it all the way to the right, you might be able to see it at the same time you folow the instructions.

Briefly, the tutorial is in the Biology 100/101 folder on the LifeSci Courses server. Your signon is Biology 100 and your password is 9newt9 . If you know what to do with that, you can do it now. Otherwise, the stuff below is supposed to step you through the process.

Step 1: Go to the Apple in the top left corner of the screen, click and hold, and pull the arrow down to the line where it says Chooser"
Step 2: In the chooser, select (click on) AppleShare in the top left panel, Life) Servers in the bottom left panel, and LifeSci) Courses in the right hand panel. Then click OK.
Step 3: Next, you need to connect to the server. Your "name" is Biology 100, and your password is 9newt9. Then click OK.
Step 4: Now your are signed on. LifeSci) Courses is highlighted so you can just click OK.
Step 5: OK, this will end eventually. Now you have the server "mounted" and you need to open it by double clicking its icon on the desktop (i.e. somewhere on the screen, probably on the right hand side).
Step 6: Open the Bio 100/101 folder by double clicking it next.
Step 7: Open the Photosynthesis folder by double clicking it.
Step 8: I think the leaf icon for the program should be double clicked next.
Step 9: Now your can start the program. Move between pages by clicking the yellow arrows, or move between sections by using the Navigation menu at the top of the screen. There are more instructions in the program itself... read the help screens that are presented early on.
